highway 101 and nw washington to
victoria, bc.
05 aug
we are up early on the 5th. the ft stevens state campground is very cool
and overcast, and the sun is not projected to burn thought the pacific
coast mist until mid-afternoon. we decide to flee.
we cross into washington mid-bridge
between Astoria and Chinook. very long and windy bridge.
we take hw 101 north. we have very
expensive pie and coffee in Aberdeen. we drive through Olympic national
park which has been extensively logged......we miss mt Olympus for the
most part...clouds or rain. the pacific northwest has been forgettable.
we arrive in port angeles just as the ferry
to victoria bc is leaving...we are last on. we are told the crossing is
going to be relatively rough, so without a wall to tie off on, we tie the
bikes off on the vehicles around us. the crossing is otherwise uneventful
and we hit victoria by 7 pm. a hotel with a pool is quickly found....it is
still friggin hot.
