penticton to yakima, washington. day 8
jul 08.
we have headed south from penticton to yakima, washington, on
highway 97... a 527 km day. l remember none of this road from 1984, with
the odd exception of a couple of 'flashbacks'. no pictures exist of our
trip through the washington desert....way too hot at over 40c. we keep
going and camp outside of yakima on highway 12.
we find a nice campsite beside a mountain stream and head back 15 km into
naches, wa, for munchies. we end up with some snacks and a couple of
monstrous cans of 8% beer each....the locals instantly know we are from
canada. the rest of the night slides into oblivion....
we are up early to beat the heat and head
down hw 12 to mt st helens.

first night south of the border. campsite is on highway 12, just outside of yakima. it is hot. kimrock lake on hw 12 and we are heading to mount st helens. we stop for for brekers. there is a path throught the forest...but it is mined. kimrock lake we are having breakfast and 2 us navy ea/6b prowlers come down kimrock lake low and fast...no pics but certainly louder and faster than my beemer where l would live if l was living in a trailer on kimrock lake, washington this is either a candle lantern or ...fill in the blanks.
